Minh Tri's Surgery Date Set
Eleven-year-old Minh Tri traveled to Phoenix in October in hopes that a chronic bowel condition could be cured. Minh Tri's already been hospitalized 10 times, but he was so eager for another attempt that he began learning English at home in Viet Nam in preparation for this trip. Surgery is set for January 8, 2008 at Banner Children's Hospital.
Two HTC Children Return Home in November
Cam Ly, a Vietnamese girl, who needed treatement for a heart condition and a bilateral cleft lip and palate, returned home to her parents in early November. She came to HTC's attention when her parents sought treatment for the Cam Ly's facial deformity. But she was so weakened from the heart condition, that doctors worried her frail body couldn't take the strain of that routine treatment. So Cam Ly came to Phoenix for treatment of both conditions and is now safely home with her parents.
Lidia returned to Phoenix this year with the hope that her congenital deafness could be cured with a cochlear implant. Unfortunately, an examination revealed that Lidia's auditory nerves don't work well enough for her to receive that treatment. But her trip was not in vain. Soon after she arrived back in Phoenix, Lidia was hospitalized with digestive tract difficulties, which were treated and she's recovered well from that procedure. Now back home in Ecuador, Lidia and her mother are receiving training in sign language so they can communicate with one another and so Lidia can communicate with others.
Whole Food Donation
A local outreach program from Whole Foods Market benefitted HTC to the tune of just over $2,886 when 5% of the day's net sales were donated. The promotion is a regular community event sponsored by the health and specialty food retailer. A different local charity is selected for each event.
